Sometimes there are unforeseen circumstances that may hinder a student's ability to excel in school. Fortunately, we have an Attendance Agent, a case manager from The Children's Center, and a DHS Counselor available to address barriers that may interfere with a student's academic and emotional growth. Our staff works diligently with families to provide resources to help promote a healthy and consistent learning experience for our students.
DPSCD offers families healthy and free activities focusing on career preparation, ways to help your child, how to cope with trauma, handling stress, and various family enrichment events.
The Parent Academy targets three key pillars:
Student Achievement – workshops and activities that provide strategies and tools for parents to support academic achievement at home and in school
Personal and Professional Development – workshops that build confidence while addressing basic needs, employment, family support, financial literacy and goal setting for the healthy development of families
Parenting/Advocacy – workshops for parents and caregivers to build and increase their effectiveness in advocating on behalf of children
All Parent Academy courses are free of charge and designed for parents, caregivers and community members. Students are welcome to attend along with their families if appropriate.
Students who live within the school boundaries are eligible for free bus transportation to and from school. The pick up and drop off times vary based on the corner location. Contact the DPSCD Transportation Department at 313-945-8600 with questions or concerns.
The PowerSchool parent portal provides parents with direct access to student data via the Internet. Using a confidential ID number and password provided by their child's school, parents can create their own PowerSchool account using a web browser or the PowerSchool app and view their child’s data, such as progress reports, attendance records, report cards, transcripts and more. During account creation, parents can create their own unique username and password. The credentials listed on the form from the school will link the student to their parent's account.
The first time you login to the PowerSchool app for your phone or tablet, you will be asked to enter the District's unique four digit code: PSNW
If you have not been issued a Username or Password, or are facing challenges with your password, please contact your school for the required login information.
